How we work, and why it matters

Most people's worry about garages is not really about spanners. It is about being told something needs doing when it does not, and having no way of knowing either way. Thirty years in the same town does not survive that, so we have never worked like it.

Three things we do on every job, without exception:

• An itemised quote before anything starts. You see what the work is and what it costs before we pick up a tool, not afterwards on an invoice.
• A phone call if we find something else. If the car comes apart and there is more to it, we ring and ask. We do not add it and tell you later.
• An honest answer about what can wait. If an advisory has plenty of life left, we say so. Telling you something does not need doing yet is how you end up coming back for the thing that does.

What "independent" actually means for you

There are three kinds of place you can take a car, and they are genuinely different propositions.

A main dealer has the manufacturer tooling and the manufacturer labour rate to match. For warranty work and a handful of proprietary jobs they are the right answer, and we will tell you when that is the case.

A fast-fit is set up for tyres, exhausts and oil changes at speed. Ask for anything diagnostic and the car usually goes elsewhere.

An independent workshop like ours sits between the two: dealer-level diagnostic equipment and thirty years of hands-on experience, at rates considerably below a franchise, with the same people seeing the job from fault-finding through to handing you the keys.

The one thing people most often get wrong is warranty. Using us does not void a manufacturer's warranty. Under Block Exemption Regulation you are entitled to have your car serviced independently, so long as the manufacturer's schedule is followed and OE-quality parts are used. Everything under one roof

We are an MOT test centre as well as a full repair workshop. That combination matters more than it sounds: when a car fails its MOT here, it gets quoted and repaired here. There is no failure sheet, no second booking somewhere else, and no repair quote from a garage that never saw the test.

The same goes for the rest of it — diagnostics, brakes, tyres and alignment, clutches and cam belts, welding, exhausts, batteries, engine carbon cleaning and recovery are all handled in-house by the same workshop.

The cars we see

Aldridge and the surrounding area put a broad mix through the doors. A look at our workshop gallery gives a fair picture: Ferraris, Porsches, Audi R8s and Range Rovers alongside the Fiat 500s, family hatchbacks and work vans that are the daily bread of any real garage.

We work on all makes and models. What we will not do is pretend to be a marque specialist for every badge on the road — if a job genuinely needs a franchised dealer's proprietary tooling, we will tell you that at the start rather than find out with the car in pieces.

We are at Unit 32 Brickyard Rd, Aldridge, Walsall WS9 8UY, with free parking on site. We are open Monday to Friday 8:00am–5:30pm and Saturday mornings 8:00am–1:00pm.
